Prison staff provided him with a wheelchair as his mobility worsened
A Northampton monster who killed his wife with a hammer while she slept has died in prison. Colin Adlard, 72, died of heart failure on June 20 last year while residing at HMP Gartree in Leicestershire.
Colin Adlard, then 61, took the hammer from the garden shed at their house in Chase Park Road, Yardley Hastings, and hit his partner Wendy over the head while she was asleep. Northampton Crown Court heard he hit her three times and that the couple argued frequently. Adlard's barrister told the court "a red mist came over him", according to the BBC.
Adlard was moved to HMP Gartree in March 2012 and was described as being in "poor health" according to the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman report. He had "several long-term health conditions" including heart failure, heart disease, kidney disease and anaemia.
