The Gulf Coast is facing a heightened risk of severe weather this weekend, with strong storms and thunderstorms possible Saturday afternoon and evening.

The severe weather threat continues for the Gulf Coast as we head into the weekend. We will see a few strong storms around this evening and tonight as a surface warm front lifts north of the area. Overnight lows tonight will be in the mid to upper 60s. Warm conditions continue on Saturday with spotty showers around at daybreak. Heavier showers and thunderstorms will develop by lunchtime. Severe weather is possible Saturday afternoon and into Saturday night.

The Storm Prediction Center has us in a level 2 slight risk and a level 3 enhanced risk for severe weather over most of the area. All modes of severe weather are possible including damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.We will see great weather Sunday through New Year’s Day. Temperatures will be above-average through New Year’s Eve and then slightly cooler as we head into early January. Frosty mornings return by the end of next week. On Friday, strong and severe storms with heavy rain moved through parts of the Gulf Coast on Friday, with one reported tornado causing damage in Mobile County. Photos and videos sent to FOX10 News show snapped tree limbs and damage to fences and structures. Friday’s storms triggered tornado warnings in parts of Mississippi, including several in Mobile County
