CLEVELAND, Ohio — Rain forced both starting pitchers from the game by the third inning Sunday at Progressive Field, and that played right into the Guardians’ hands as their league-leading bullpen took over in a 6-5 win against Toronto.Steven Kwan and Josh Naylor stayed hot at the plate, each delivering a solo home run in the fourth inning as Cleveland handed the Blue Jays their 13th loss in their last 18 head-to-head meetings since 2019.

Rain delayed the game for 40 minutes in the bottom of the third with Cleveland threatening to score against Toronto starter Yusei Kikuchi. When play resumed, the Guardians turned a one-run deficit into a 4-3 lead. But umpires summoned the grounds crew minutes later as Johnathan Rodriguez faced Kikuchi with the bases loaded, nobody out and a 2-2 count.

Toronto took a two-run lead in the first inning on a mammoth blast by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. off Cleveland starter Triston McKenzie into the bleachers with Spencer Horwitz aboard. Guerrero’s home run traveled 436 feet.
