Greg Abbott announced Thursday the month of May will be recognized as “ Jewish American Heritage Month ” in his state.“It is imperative now more than ever that we stand in solidarity with Israel & the Jewish community,” he said. “We will always stand in support of Israel & celebrate the role Jewish Americans have played in our great state.
The proclamation calls out a "rise" in antisemitism worldwide, saying it is necessary to now "fight against hate, religious bigotry and terrorism." It also notes all Texas residents are encouraged to "learn more about the significant role" Jewish people have played in the U.S.However, not everyone appreciated the move. Responding to the post was Sawyer Hackett, a senior advisor for Julian Caston, who served in former President Barack Obama's cabinet.
