HARRISON, Ohio - A Harrison City Council member was booted off the council on Tuesday following trespassing and vandalism charges.Council members weighed video evidence and public comments during a hearing Tuesday night. The vote was unanimous.

The common theme was that his actions were "cringeworthy" or that they were hard to defend, but that he had done a lot of good for the community. Others said the confederate flag has made a mockery of the town.Harrison City Council members said that they don't like the flag either, but that Hickey has the right to fly it.

"We know how this will probably play out. So, we know at least three, three scenarios, and none of them are nearly as severe as what has been accused tonight," Mains said. "People make mistakes, and I appreciate that I've done enough good in the community that people were willing to, at least in the audience, who were willing to give me that grace and mercy."
