Grassroots effort makes canoeing, kayaking down Chickasaw Creek closer to reality If you drive to work or to school on busy highway 158 between Prichard and Saraland, you may cross over it every day without a thought.
Thursday night, community members met at "The Bright Spot" in Prichard to talk about making a community access point happen, and what else the community might see at that special place. Davis says the EPA has given a green light to their green project, thanks to their efforts at community impute and fulfilling two very specific requirements."We've been accepted for the technical assistance,” says Davis, “which gives you all of those different disciplines like architecture, environmental engineering, civil engineering, all of the science, the geology that needed to be done. So all of those things were paid for by the federal government.
Now that the project is on the cusp of becoming reality, there is more work to be done. Davis says now that this grassroots project that was started by members of the community is underway, help will also be needed from the governments that borders Chickasaw Creek.
