A grand jury has indicted the man who allegedly beat a New York City Transit worker. The victim's family is speaking out. NatDuddridgeTV reports.

Meanwhile, the victim's family spoke outside Bronx criminal court, asking for the maximum punishment.

"As I stand beside my brother, we are really grateful and thankful for everybody out to support him today, We just hope for justice," said Nashia Nelson. Nashia is the sister of Anthony Nelson, the subway worker attacked last Friday. She spoke for him, as his attorney advised him not to speak yet. One week ago, the 35-year-old was brutally beaten at the Pelham Bay 6 train. He says he had noticed a man harassing people and tried to report him to police, but before he got to the officer, the suspect punched him in the face. He suffered a broken nose and collar bone.

Alexander Wright, 49, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and one count of harassment. Officers say he has more than 40 prior arrests. "You can tell who the guy is by his rap sheet, his history," Nashia Nelson said."We really just want to see justice. We want to see him behind bars, which is what he deserves." "Up the bail, go to jail. And send a message to all these people who are assaulting our transit workers," said Tony Utano of TWU Local 100.

A new law recently signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul makes it a second degree felony to assault a transit worker. Criminals found guilty could face up to seven years in prison.
