California Gov. Gavin Newsom tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday after experiencing mild symptoms, according to his office.
KCRA 3's Ashley Zavala said that the governor's office confirmed that Newsom will be in isolation for the next five days and still plans to carry on with his statewide tour from March 16-19 to make policy announcements.
Newsom is also set to hold a news conference on Zoom with California Attorney General Rob Bonta and other state leaders on Thursday in order to make a"major announcement." The governor's positive COVID-19 test also comes ahead of President Joe Biden's visit to California on March 13 and 14 which he announced on Wednesday night. It is unclear whether or not the two will meet face-to-face while Biden is in California.
This is Newsom's second time testing positive for COVID-19 after contracting the virus in May 2022 shortly after receiving his booster shot.
