She was labeled transphobic for publicly working to preserve fairness in women’s sports.“had to compete against a biological male from the University of Pennsylvania who swam the previous three years on the men’s team” but that “my teammates and I had to share a locker room where we were exposed to male genitalia” without consent.

World Athletics, an umbrella organization for many global athletics associations, announced in January that it is proposing lower testosterone limits for transgender athletes after considering calling for an outright ban. Their findings reflected advantages in body mass, muscle mass, size, strength, hemoglobin levels and heart and lung size among post-pubescent biological males.

The organization has done so despite pressure from the International Olympic Committee to reject the reality of biological differences in elite athletic performance between men and women. In time, the fundamental question of fair competition should lead to policies within sports associations that acknowledge the necessity of separation by biological sex in collegiate level competition.
