I hope he’s looking down on us, and I fervently hope it never ever happens again.” At the after-party, Wilson-Cairns said she hoped that the message would continue to resonate. “It was no accident that Sam and I wrote a film where the thrust of it is to stop a battle. We never wanted to glorify war,” she said. “I think it’s the closest humanity comes to, well, losing all humanity. It was our intention to tell a story about what those men went through, and also share a warning from history.
Despite the heaviness of that theme, there was time for joy in the Globes win. “So the film’s announced. You leap up because you’re very exited, then you rush to the stage. Pippa Harris had told me before, ‘Go onstage if the film wins!’” Wilson-Cairns said. “Then you’re up onstage, which is very surreal. Sandra Bullock is there, which is mad.
