🔴 The German Government has confirmed that it will supply Ukraine with Leopard tanks in a major development in the ongoing war with Russia
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz approved the supply of the vehicles to Kiev after weeks of diplomatic deadlock between Nato members., including Poland which has already submitted a formal request to Berlin to send tanks from its stock.Earlier this monthto support the fight against Vladamir Putin’s invasion, with Mr Sunak pledging around 14 Challenger 2s.
Washington had previously suggested it would be more productive to send German Leopards since many allies have them and Ukrainian troops would need less training than on the more difficult Abrams. The German-made Leopard 2s – specifically designed during the Cold War as a counter to the Soviet-era tanks used by Russia – have long been coveted by Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky due to their manoeuvrability on the battlefield and easiness to operate and maintain.
