Germany's largest company by market cap, the software firm SAP, is betting on San Francisco's tech scene with a new office in the SoMa neighborhood.
The business software firm SAP, Germany’s largest company by market cap, is officially opening a new 30,000-square-foot office in SoMa on Thursday. About 500 of SAP’s 3,500 Bay Area employees are expected to use the 135 Townsend St. location as their main office, a spokesperson told SFGATE, and workers started trickling in at the beginning of April. The firm also has outposts in Palo Alto and San Ramon.
SAP builds and sells enterprise software products, counting Salesforce and Oracle among its competitors. In a press release, the company said the new office is aimed at keeping SAP close to early-stage startup founders and key tech partners in the city, as well as general tech innovation. “San Francisco is the capital of the tech industry and one of the top global markets for talent,” Yaad Oren, the managing director of SAP Labs U.S., said in a statement. “... It is a vital region. SAP is doubling down on our commitment to this epicenter of innovation with our newest office and this next-generation approach to work.”
“We’re helping deliver the promise of an intelligent, sustainable enterprise with our customers by nourishing relationships with the top technology firms associated with the Silicon Valley,” Oren added.
