A Gary man is accused of beating his neighbor outside their apartment building and stealing his groceries.

Cleotha Deon Lipson, 42, is charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony; intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; intimidation with the threat to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony; residential entry breaking and entering, a Level 6 felony; and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief.Around 1:45 p.m. on Aug.

Police spoke to the victim who said he had just gotten off a city bus after grocery shopping when he was attacked in front of the main door of the apartment building by Lipson, his neighbor. He said Lipson shouted obscenities at him and accused him of being a pedophile before striking him in the face with a dark, metal-like object that he believed was a gun, records state. The victim dropped his grocery bags and headed to the front door of the building when Lipson said “I’m going to kill you.

The victim immediately called 911 and Lipson fled, records state. The victim suffered a large cut to his left cheek and he was taken by ambulance to Methodist Northlake for further treatment, including stitches. When he retrieved his groceries, he noticed several items had been stolen and there was extensive damage to the locks and door frame on his apartment door, court records state.

Police later found Lipson sitting on the apartment building’s front stoop with another man. Lipson didn’t respond to police attempts to get his name and tried to run inside, the affidavit states, so police used a stun gun on him.
