Hodor started off Game of Thrones as the sweet, loyal stable hand of House Stark who would clearly do just about anything to protect Bran Stark.
Hodor’s parents are unknown, but one common theory connects him to Ser Duncan the Tall. There are obvious physical similarities between the two, with both being incredibly, notably tall, but the biggest piece of evidence comes from Bran. In a vision in A Dance with Dragons, he sees a knight as tall as Hodor kissing a woman; the knight is widely believed to be Ser Duncan, and the woman Old Nan. Old Nan’s stories sometimes include Ser Duncan, and this meeting could be why she’s so fond of him.
Although Martin hasn’t written it yet, the next in the Tales of Dunk & Egg series is expected to be The She-Wolves of Winterfell. This will find the duo heading to the Starks’ ancestral home, meeting the “She-Wolves,” a group of Stark wives, widows, and more, and there could be a succession crisis ongoing. Given the timeline , then it would fit for Old Nan, thought to be perhaps over 100, to be at Winterfell around that time.
