Commissioners took a big step in the development of a new prison.

The new Lancaster County Prison is one step closer to reality.County commissioners on Wednesday unanimously chose TranSystems Corporation Consultants of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, to come up with a design for the future prison.The contract is for $1.4 million. The company is expected to provide a design in the coming months, and then the construction will be put out for bids.County and prison leaders say the company is very experienced in prison design and renovation.

Chair of the Commissioners Ray D'Agostino said,"Buildings make a big difference in terms of how people are dealt with in the system." Warden Cheryl Steberger-Simione says the new prison will provide staff for parking, climate control and much more space for mental health treatment.Video below: Lancaster County Prison
