Funeral services for President Jimmy Carter , the 39th President of the United States, are scheduled to begin in Washington , D.C. on January 7th. On Tuesday, the late President Carter and his family are expected to arrive at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland from Georgia at 2:15 p.m. They will then travel by motorcade to the United States Navy Memorial and the U.S. Capitol, where the late President will be carried into the Rotunda.

Members of Congress will pay their respects during a service at 4:30 p.m. Major road closures in DC next week for Jimmy Carter's funeral, election certification On Wednesday, the public can pay their respects at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda from 7 a.m. until 7 a.m. on January 9th, according to U.S. Capitol Police. On Thursday, the late President Carter is set to depart the U.S. Capitol at 9 a.m. and travel to the Washington National Cathedral for a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. followed by the National Funeral Services at 10 a.m. Then, Carter and his family will return to Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, where they will board back to Georgia. United States Capitol Police are asking people who wish to attend Carter's public viewing to be prepared for the cold weather and take into consideration the following: Flowers, sealed envelopes, or other offerings will NOT be allowed into the U.S. Capitol or Capitol Visitor Center. Photography and electronic recording will not be allowed while visitors are in the Rotunda. Bags exceeding the size of 18' wide x 14' high x 8.5' deep. Weapons (to include but not limited to): Black jack, sling shot, sand club, sandbag, knuckles, electric stun guns, knives of any size including razors and box cutters, martial arts weapons or devices. Staff may possess knives with blades 3' or less. Pointed objects to include but not limited to knitting needles, letter openers, and other pointed objects deemed a possible threat. Pens and pencils are permitted. This restriction does not apply to staff
