Starlink announced a mobility solution today: high-speed internet while driving, shuttling, sailing, or otherwise moving across the face of the planet.
website says customers will get 100% coverage “in your country and every country where Starlink service is available.”Plans are also available for ocean-going ships, with “connectivity available in the vast majority of the Earth's oceans and seas.”
The service will provide up to 220 megabits/second download and starts at $250/month with a one-time $2,500 hardware purchase. That compares to $120/month for standard service in the U.S., and a standard hardware fee of $599. The service uses Starlink’s new high performance hardware, which has a wider field of view for available satellites and enhanced GPS capabilities for knowing where it is and which satellites might be accessible. It’s designed for a permanent install, so it’s not intended to be moved and planted in different locations but rather continually affixed to a vehicle.
