A federal jury has convicted a Fredericksburg doctor in a a telemarketing scheme that officials say saw him file more than $70 million in fraudulent Medicare claims. David M. Young , 61, signed thousands of prescriptions for orthotic braces and genetic tests that were not medically necessary, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Orthotic braces are devices used to encourage proper joint alignment or to protect a limb.

Space shortage has Fredericksburg eyeing new city hall Young prescribed braces and genetic tests for more than 13,000 Medicare beneficiaries, according to the Justice Department. Some of those prescriptions were written for federal agents who were posing as patients. Young wrote prescriptions for them although he did not “see, speak to or otherwise treat” those patients, according to the Justice Department.
