A Fox Lake shooting left Roy Hoffman, 77, dead in his own home. Prosecutors have charged Asmi Ibrihim and Kathryn Deason of Round Lake in the case.
It happened in the first block of Mineola Road in this usually quiet community located in far northwest suburban fox lake. A neighbor who did not want to be identified said she heard the gunshot.Prosecutors have charged Asmi Ibrihim Jr., 37, with first degree murder and obstructing justice. Kathryn A. Deason, 31, is also charged with obstructing justice in connection with the deadly shooting.
Investigators say they're trying to nail down a motive for the attack, but say the shooting happened only a short time after the two suspects arrived in a minivan and Ibrihim went to look for Deason. "Initially we believe the victim, when Asmi knocked on the door, said that Kathryn was not inside with him," said Lt. Christopher Covelli, a spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force. "He later went and retrieved a rifle from the van, the minivan he arrived in, went upstairs, went inside the residence and shot the 77-year-old."
Both were arrested at Ibrihim's Round Lake home, where officers said they spotted the getaway vehicle. Although the two people arrested for the crime could appear in bond court as early as Tuesday, police are asking for the public's help.
