A soldier at Fort Drum has been accused of the murder of a fellow soldier.
Fort Drum soldier Specialist Riley Birbilas is charged with the murder of fellow solider Specialist Jacob Ashton . On August 5, 21-year-old Specialist Jacob Ashton of Ohio was found deceased on post, according to a release from Fort Drum Public Affairs issued the following day.
“Our entire Commando family feels profound sorrow for the loss of Jacob," said 2nd Brigade Combat Team commander Col. Anthony Gore. "While words do little to ease the pain of Jacob’s passing, we are a family, and we will wrap our arms around his family as well as support each other. Let us live in a manner worthy of honoring Jacob’s life and service. As we mourn, I ask each of us to keep his family in our thoughts and prayers.
