The former Saskatchewan NDP leader is launching his new book which looks back on the impact of the pandemic in the province.

Activate your Online Access Now“For example, when the premier decided in the summer of 2021 to ignore the modelling and the advice of the public health experts and then by the fall we were having to ship people across the country because our ICUs were overwhelmed,” he recalled.

“One of the reactions that I’m getting is ‘why on earth would you want to read about that when we just went through it’ and people are wanting to move on and they look back at that period and it’s sort of dark and foggy and they don’t want to go in there,” he said. Meili said he wanted to tell the stories of those who were affected by the pandemic: “People who lost loved ones, people who got sick themselves, people who couldn’t get surgeries or transplants because the hospitals were overwhelmed,” he said.Article content

“I never liked to do an author talk, I find it kind of boring if I just stand up there and talk. So I wanted to invite someone to do an interview with me. In Saskatoon it was Yann Martel, Jane Philpott in Kingston, and it’s councillor Andrew Stevens in Regina,” he said.
