Campbell spent the 1984 season with the Philadelphia Phillies, posting a 6-5 record with a 3.43 era and one save.

Campbell had a long career which began in 1973 with the Minnesota Twins and concluded following the 1987 season with the Montreal Expos. He also had stops with the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers. Campbell was a two-time AL Rolaids Relief Man award winner . He led the American League in saves with 31 in that 1977 season and was also an all-star. He finished his career with an 83-68 record to go with a 3.54 ERA and 126 saves.
