State Police launched an investigation when the family reported discovering an injury to her leg.

A former home health aide has been sentenced to 23 years in state prison for the assault of a special needs teen patient in 2020, Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw said.to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, both second-degree offenses, prosecutors said.

DiPaolo was an employed by Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services at the time and spent seven months working as the caregiver for a severely developmentally-impaired girl at her family’s Southampton home, officials said. The patient, who was 16 at the time, suffered from a neurological disorder. She was immobile, non-verbal, partially blind and received food and medication through tubes, authorities said.to her leg, officials said.

Investigators determined that DiPaolo broke her femur when changing her diaper and forced water and a stuffed animal into the mouth of the patient who was unable to swallow due to her condition, prosecutors said. The victim has since passed away due to causes unrelated to the abuse, authorities said. Last year, a director of community relations for Preferred Home Health Care & Nursing Services said DiPaolo had not been an employee there “for a long time,” but did not comment further.Our journalism needs your support.
