A Fairbanks Grand Jury has indicted the former Fire Chief and Board Secretary of the Rural Deltana Volunteer Fire Department in late December.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -

The Department of Law said in a statement that 62-year-old Michael Paschall has been accused of stealing more than $400,000 from the Fire Department’s bank account over several years. Alaska State Troopers began their investigation in Jan. 2024, when the Fire Department’s Board of Directors learned of the thefts. Shortly after, Paschall left the Fire Department and fled the state, taking the Fire Department’s laptop with him — according to the Department of Law.

Paschall is charged with two counts of Theft in the First Degree and one count each of Scheme to Defraud, Felony Misapplication of Property, Falsifying Business Records, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. He has been issued a summons to appear or call in for his arraignment on Jan. 8 in Fairbanks.
