Harry Trombitas has spent 29 years as an FBI agent and has served on protection details throughout his career. He says in situations like these, you have to expect the unexpected.
"You have to assume that there are individuals out there that may try to take someone's life so you've got to expand your area of control the best that you can and try to cover all the areas where a shot can come from," Trombitas said .Witness helps capture suspect in second Trump assassination attempt: Authorities
"In this case, it really helped out and proved to be important," said Trombitas. "This is a classic example of why we have them and why we need them." He says the FBI will look to determine if this person acted alone or not, with this being the second assassination attempt in the last two months."It's scary, and it could be an attempt on VP Harris's life. We're equally concerned about protecting all of the candidates," Trombitas added."It's ok to have disagreements between each other, but it can lead to violence. That is absolutely not what we need in this country," Trombitas said.
He says moving forward, the investigation will take time and even if the FBI has jurisdiction in assassination attempts, it'll take local law enforcement, Secret Service and more to come together to get to the bottom of what took place.
