Good news for vinyl enthusiasts looking to upgrade to a better turntable:
To ensure the precision of the turntable motor, the RT85N has an isolated motor that prevents unwanted vibrations and noise, while the speed control mechanism ensures consistent platter velocity with just 0.07% Wow/Flutter.
The RT85N is supplied with a high-density acrylic platter that has a greater mass compared to aluminum designs. An acrylic platter dampens unwanted vibrations and that results in a more spatial sound that has a tighter bass, a fuller midrange and an overall improved clarity. Meanwhile, the plinth of the RT85N is made from solid wood and has adjustable resonance damping feet for superior isolation from any unwanted micro-vibrations.
I haven’t had a chance to audition the RT85N and Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge, but if it sounds like something you’d like to try then do bear in mind that like most turntables it doesn’t include a phono preamp. To use the RT85N you’ll need an amplifier with a phono stage or an external phono stage to go between the turntable and the auxiliary input on an amplifier.The Fluance RT85N with Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge is available now and costs $499.
