Rutgers offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca is building out his quarterback room which now includes Creekside (Fla.) junior quarterback Sean Ashenfelder.
— a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, who picked Rutgers on Saturday over the Virginia Tech Hokies while attending a game featuring the two teams.
The junior had his premonition that Rutgers is the school for him confirmed after basking in the atmosphere of a packed SHI Stadium .on April 27, and are joined by Pitt, West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, UConn and other Group of Five schools whose staffs released a collective sigh when Ashenfelder announced his intentions to join Schiano on Sunday morning.
It appears Ciarrocca has a type: accurate, good decision-maker and a fast processor. A student-athlete who is versatile and fits that mold, Ashenfelder also plays baseball where he throws 90 miles per hour and can be seen blasting baseballs out of ball parks throughout the Sunshine State. Ashenfelder is one of just four junior quarterbacks who Schiano has offered this cycle, and who Ciarrocca will carefully craft among Rutgers’ other passers. However, since offering Ashenfelder in February, Schiano has served as the quarterback’s lead recruiter — how Schiano often handles QBs who Rutgers truly wants., who picked Rutgers on Feb. 5, and, like Ashenfelder, is a processor who is accurate and has the mobility to run the RPOs .
Being a quarterback and the first player to join Rutgers’ 2025 football recruiting class should position the gunslinger for a leadership role among his peers, and help Rutgers add talent around him.
