The Florida Board of Educations voted Wednesday to expand restrictions on discussing gender identity and sexual orientation to all grade levels.Last year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis passed the Parental Rights in Education Bill, prohibiting discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in Florida schools up to third grade.
Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. stated, “all we are doing is we are setting the expectations, so our teachers are clear: that they are to teach to the standards.” Speaking in South Carolina Wednesday, DeSantis stated, “it’s wrong for a teacher to tell a student that they may have been born in the wrong body or that their gender is a choice and so we don’t let that happen in Florida.
