One Republican county executive on Long Island is refusing to lower flags to half-staff in memory of late President Jimmy Carter.

MINEOLA, N.Y. — Flags have not been lowered at Nassau County -operated buildings.Democrats are demanding that County Executive Bruce Blakeman follow the federal mandate from President Joe Biden.The Republican county leader has not publicly explained his reasons for not lowering the flags, and a spokesman for Blake told CBS News New York he is 'unavailable for comment.
