The Stars also clamped down on the penalty kill and thrived on special teams. Three of the Stars’ goals came on special teams — two from Heiskanen on the power play and one from Seguin shorthanded.Colorado had multiple careless penalties, including two delay of game calls for throwing the puck over the glass and two for too many men on the ice.Benn delivered a booming strike on Toews behind Colorado’s net, which knocked him to the ice where he lay for a few minutes, slow to get up.
The Avalanche pulled goalie Alexandar Georgiev with four minutes left and added a third goal by Valeri Nichushkin in 6-on-5 not long after before drawing a Dallas penalty with under three minutes to play to have a 6-on-4 chance.
