Guns will be banned at former President Donald Trump's Friday speech at the National Rifle Association's Annual Leadership Forum.
Attendees at the Houston speech will be prohibited from carrying their firearms during the 45th president's address, according to a report.
Trump's speech will come in the wake of the Uvalde mass shooting, which saw a gunman murder at least 21 people, including 19 elementary school students.The ban on guns during Trump's speech was handed down by the Secret Service, according to the NRA. Under the ban, those in the audience will not be allowed to carry firearms, firearms accessories, knives, ammunition, laser pointers, pepper spray, toy guns, or backpacks, the report noted.
All attendees will be subjected to a magnetometer search prior to entering the speech hall, according to the NRA. The Secret Service has the"authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protectees, including those located in open-carry states," a statement from the agency read.The Washington Examiner reached out to the National Rife Association for comment but did not receive a response.
