Fire possibly sparked by e-bike charging damages Serra Mesa garage [Breaking]
A fire possibly started by an e-bike being charged in the garage of a Serra Mesa condo caused an estimated $50,000 in damage early Wednesday, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said.
The fire was reported about 7:15 a.m. at the residence on Fenton Parkway near Northside Drive, according to a San Diego fire online log. Officials estimate the accidental fire caused about $25,000 in damage to the structure and another $25,000 in damage to the contents.“It started in the vicinity of where an e-bike was charging but we can’t definitively say that the fire was caused by the battery,” officials said in an online report.
A county hazardous materials team was called to remove the lithium-ion batteries that were damaged in the fire.
