SAN JOSE — Local and state fire crews raced to combat a grass fire burning out of control in the hills east of San Jose that was threatening multiple structures late Thursday afternoon.
“Firefighters are on the scene of a Tier 3 vegetation fire near Clayton Road in East San Jose,” the San Jose Fire Department stated on its Twitter feed. It wasn’t immediately clear how many structures were in the vicinity of the fire or how any were nearby. Cal Fire helicopter siphons water from Lake Cunningham in San Jose to help with airdrops against the Clayton Fire in the San Jose hills.
