The Roadrunners didn’t take advantage of the opportunity they had Friday. But now they know more about “big-time football,” and their margin for error.

Frank Harris #0 and head coach Jeff Traylor of the UTSA Roadrunners react against the Troy Trojans during the fourth quarter of the Duluth Trading Cure Bowl at Exploria Stadium on December 16, 2022 in Orlando, Florida. ORLANDO, Fla. — It was an opportunity worthy of a champion, against an opponent worthy of one, too.

This time, the ball didn’t quite hit receiver Zakhari Franklin in stride. This time, Franklin didn’t quite reach back and pluck it out of the air. This time, against No. 24 Troy in an 18-12 defeat, the No. 25 Roadrunners’ magic had less margin for error. And welcome to another offseason of the Roadrunners knowing all too well how much work they have to do.

So even though UTSA would have loved to win its first bowl game , would have loved to have beaten a ranked FBS opponent for the first time , and would have loved to pull off its first Top 25 finish , at least Traylor should have no problems commanding his team’s attention over the next eight months.
