Federal Way police are investigating a brazen armed carjacking that was caught on home surveillance cameras.

Police said it happened around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 near the corner of 28th Avenue S and S 282nd Street. The entire crime happened in less than a minute, with two masked suspects coming up behind the victim seconds after he arrives home, demanding his car at gunpoint.

“It just scares me, it scares me they’re willing to go to that length to do that in a neighborhood, pull out a gun on somebody, it’s their property and then still take their vehicle,” Lucy Patrick, who lives nearby, said. The victim told KOMO News he was not hurt, and his vehicle has since been recovered, but police say it is being processed for fingerprints which could take weeks.“Pretty brazen,” Alan Francisco, who also lives nearby, said after seeing the video, “I can’t see why they would be waiting and have that, why would they pick somebody unless they knew something?”

It’s also unknown if the victim was followed home, or if this was a crime of opportunity, which is leaving neighbors concerned. “That’s what was so surprising, did they know his schedule, did they know, are you being watched? I think we all are being watched, our comings and goings, if we have a set schedule,” Karen Francisco, who also lives nearby, said.
