De La Garza home was likely San Antonio’s first bank Although there was some local interest in promoting San Antonio as a location for one of these banks, the honor went to Dallas. San Antonio’s population was slightly higher — 96,614 as of the 1910 U.S. census, compared with Dallas at 92,104 — but the then-smaller city was awarded the branch that served the region that included Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and part of Arizona.
