A crash on Interstate 71 South in Delaware County, Ohio, resulted in one fatality and four serious injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

DELAWARE COUNTY , Ohio — A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 71 South in Delaware County on Sunday evening, resulting in one fatality and four serious injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) responded to a report of the crash at approximately 5 p.m. on I-71 South near the intersection of U.S. Route 36/State Route 37 in Berkshire Township.

According to OSHP, a Hyundai Tucson driven by 35-year-old Michael Duncan was traveling northbound on I-71 when it veered off the left side of the highway, crossed the median, overturned, and collided with the median cable barrier and a Chevrolet Silverado. The Tucson came to rest on its top in the southbound lanes. The Silverado then slid off the left side of the road. A Toyota Tacoma was struck by debris from the initial collision. Duncan, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A woman and a 10-year-old child in Duncan's vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospitals. The two passengers in the Silverado were also transported to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries. The crash caused a significant disruption to traffic, with all southbound lanes of I-71 near the scene being closed for several hours. The lanes have since reopened
