Hervé Léger's bandage dress fits right into the realm of unexpected fashion revivals

What is a girl to wear to a cocktail event in Miami? A city where every arm and leg is naked and every curve emphasized? This past week I attended a glitzy event in the heart of South Beach. I needed something body-skimming, something that would encase me like a sausage, something elevated but also sexy. I didn’t want to wear a slip dress. I didn’t want to do an A-line dress. . Nor did I want to go with the suit and tie option.

Of course, I could have gone for the label’s instantly recognizable mini bandage dress. Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Lou Doillon wore one in the mid-’00s. . Instead, I chose an updated iteration from the pre-fall 2021 collection that boasted a fringe skirt that skimmed my ankles, with the signature bandage bodice. The sliver of sex factor here were the cut-outs below under the chest and, well, the fact that this dress hugged every dip on my body.

When Leroux left the company–he was bought out by BCBG Max Azria in 2007—Hervé Léger somewhat fell to the wayside. The dress seemed to descend into reality television-ville and fashion girls, including myself, wouldn’t give it the time of day. And yet, it is here, on the red carpet, in club lines, and at events. In 2019,Friday Night Vibesincreased 74 percent and search interest for bandage dresses increased 49 percent.

As we approach spring, I can only imagine that the dress is going to gain more speed. Hervé Léger dresses fit right into the realm of unexpected fashion revivals, alongside Alexander McQueen’s skull scarf and the Balenciaga City Bag. As for the Hervé Léger dress, well, bandage up because it’s going to be a fun–and form-fitting–ride.

Why Is Beef Wellington Suddenly Everywhere? - WashingtonianWhy Is Beef Wellington Suddenly Everywhere? - WashingtonianCertain classic dishes tend to make restaurant comebacks. Washington’s centerpiece du jour? The Wellington—yes, that old-school dish of beef tenderloin wrapped in mushroom duxelles and buttery puff pastry, then baked until rare on the inside, golden on the outside, and ready for ceremonial slicing.
