Members of the Fairbanks community circled West Valley High School's track to bring awareness of cancer.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - On June 4, West Valley High School hosted the 2022 Relay For Life in Fairbanks, where members of the community circled the school’s track to bring awareness of cancer.Due to a shortage of volunteers this year, the normally 24 hour event was set to run from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.This year’s relay featured the theme of Broadway and closing the curtain on cancer.
Flora Roddy, Chair of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, explained, “We have survivors here. Every year they come and paint their hands or trace their hands on a banner, so each year we have a handprint of who was there as a survivor.” “It’s a way to honor and remember those who are still here and then one year they’re not, but you still have their handprint to remember them by,” Roddy added.Those interested in helping out can visit the event’s
