Facebook said the outage that kept users from posting updates, sending messages, commenting and using other functionalities for more than 22 hours was the result of a server configuration change
That global outage has come to an end but people might experience intermittent issues as the system recovers a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement.
“We made a server configuration change that triggered a cascading series of issues. As a result, many people had difficulty accessing our apps and services,” the company said. It is not known whether the server configuration change was a routine task or in response to something specific. The social media platform tweeted that the outage was not related to a DDoS attack.
Although the result of which had a global effect as outages, and limited functionality were reported from the U.S., and Latin America, Europe to Japan.The outage is one of the biggest in Facebook’s history. The company is reportedly considering refunds for advertisers who were affected by the outage.
“We are still investigating the overall impact of this issue, including the possibility of refunds for advertisers,” the company said.Eastern Time on Wednesday. A U.S. outage map on Downdetector, a site status website, indicated that both social networks were not functioning for users in large portions of the East Coast, California, and Texas.
