A reader tells me she was driving down Keller Avenue the other day and came across what appeared to be a driver with a medical emergency. Concerned for the motorist’s safety, she pulled in front of the car and yelled, “Do you need medical help? Do you want me to call 911?”

“We call on them to do everything in their power — by any means necessary — to provide peace on our streets,” says former City Councilmember Annie Campbell Washington.It’s mid-September, and summer is waning. For Montclair Village crossing guard John Bradford, though, summer ended Aug. 7, when Oakland schools started back up.Clearly, he doesn’t mind.

“Everybody gets an escort across the street,” says Bradford, pointing out that the proximity to so many schools and the park keeps him busy.
