The US Secretary of State clarified that the sanctions were not aimed at the content of RT's reporting but were instead a response to the"covert influence activities" that he alleged the network has been conducting."We know that RT possesses cyber capabilities and engaged in covert information influence operations and military procurement.”
“This will be viewed as double standards by the Global South that they are trying to target. India will obviously not be responsive to such American pressure,” Sibal said.The country has resisted calls from the US to impose restrictions on its energy imports from Moscow ever since Russia's attack on Ukraine in 2022.
Instead, India, the world's number three importer of oil, continued its long-standing relationship with Russia and took advantage of its discounted oil until Russia became its leading supplier.
