Millions of households will see a price hike in bills this April, including council tax, broadband and water amongst others.
The rate of Consumer Prices Index inflation for December or Retail Price Index for January are normally used to decide these rises. This means that the average energy bill for a typical family will rise by £500, however, it could be even higher if you use more energy. Council tax Council tax is another bill that will increase in April, with the majority of local authorities upping monthly payment by 5%.The reason behind the higher-than-normal increase is due to a change introduced by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt last year.
Water bills Water bills are to see the biggest increase in bills for around 20 years, with the annual bill for an average household in England and Wales hitting £448. The last time prescriptions were increased in 2021, it was by 20p an item and it was announced on February 26.Stamps Last year, the Royal Mail confirmed stamp prices would rise on March 4.The cost of 1st class stamps was hiked to 95p, up by 10p, and 2nd class stamps rose to 68p, up by 2p.Benefits Department for Work and Pensions benefits and the benefit cap will go up by 10.1% from April.
