Every Single Formula E Driver Has Reportedly Signed a Complaint to the FIA's President

Drivers in the all-electric racing series Formula E are looking for clarity and reform to the category's officiating process.

Formula E is now in its 12th season, making the all-electric championship old enough and well-defined enough that Max Verstappen can use it as a reference point when complaining about Formula 1's new rule set.

The championship has improved in plenty of ways since it debuted, from the distance cars can go on a battery to the level of team competing in the championship—but drivers still have their issues. According to a new report, the entire group agrees so strongly on one of those issues that they all signed a letter signaling their frustration.According to a report from The Race, the entire Formula E grid has backed a message focusing on complaints about stewarding within the series. It reportedly addresses 'growing concern regarding the current standard, consistency, and procedural coherence of stewarding and race direction within the championship,' particularly the work of series race director Marek Hanaczewski.Specific complaints include a lack of consistency in the assigning of penalties, unclear applications of the category's sporting regulations, and stewarding panels with little continuity. Suggested remedies range from driver advisory panels with Formula E experience to an independent review of officiating decisions made by Hanaczewski, but the specific naming of the race director could also suggest that this is an indirect request that he be replaced. The letter was submitted directly to FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and sent out on Wednesday. The Race's report suggests that he will be attending the weekend's upcoming Formula E round in Madrid, potentially opening the door for a direct dialogue between the FIA and Formula E's drivers. Until those conversations happen, the letter is just a surprisingly public request for change.
