Joaquin Phoenix is one of the most beloved actors of his generation, and that popularity has been reflected several times at the Oscars.
Joaquin Phoenix has been nominated at the Academy Awards several times over the course of his career, building a strong reputation for his consistently impressive performances in popular movies. The actor started his career in 1986’s SpaceCamp, where he played the youngest member of a NASA youth camp that’s accidentally sent into space.
Phoenix was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in Gladiator, but he narrowly missed out on victory. A win was always unlikely since this was his first nomination, but he definitely deserved to be considered. The Oscar ultimately went to Benicio del Toro for his outstanding role as Officer Rodriguez in Steven Soderberg’s Traffic, a gritty drama about the American war on drugs.
Unfortunately, Phoenix missed out on victory once again thanks to Philip Seymour Hoffman’s widely-acclaimed turn in Bennett Miller’s Capote. The film is a thrilling crime drama about the real-life exploits of novelist Truman Capote, who develops a relationship with a known murderer whom he began researching for his latest book.
