Enterprise State Community College hosts week-long training for STEM and CTE teachers from Alabama and nearby areas.
ENTERPRISE, Ala. — A new training program at Enterprise State Community College is helping STEM and CTE teachers earn credentials so they can train students in their own classrooms.
At the Center for Applied Technologies on Enterprise State Community College’s Enterprise campus, instructors are spending the week in a “train-the-trainer” program built for STEM and CTE teachers and post-secondary instructors from Alabama and nearby areas.
“These skillsets and training provide multitude of options for these students in many different fields from oil and gas to automotive to food and beverage to live sciences,” said Richard Curtis, Festo regional sales manager. Organizers said demand for skilled workers keeps growing, and this model helps schools keep pace by training the trainers.
“A mechatronic here has NC3 from the start at our Ozark campus and to see it grow as it has and to host a training like this to train other trainers and just watch that education and training grow beyond Wiregrass but state and nation is amazing to see,” said Cassidy Gibbs, PR director at Enterprise State Community College. The idea is a ripple effect: train one educator, and you impact dozens of students every year.
Instead of just talking about careers, the focus is practice with real equipment, real expectations and real workplace skills.
“Coming down here and said Richard whats mechatronics I have no idea but I’m excited to find out submerging myself into the material that will be the future for my students,” said Richard Curtis, a high school teacher in Philadelphia. By the end of the week, teachers leave ready to teach what they practiced, building lessons around safety, problem-solving and hands-on training students can use in internships, technical programs or their first job.
The goal is students who can walk into a shop, a lab or a job site and already know what they’re doing. Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published. Available for FREE in theJackson County Correctional Facility to end in-person visitation
