Four-time Grammy winner Erykah Badu on Wednesday launched her first line of branded premium cannabis under the name That Badu. The line is available at Cookies and Lemonnade stores in California.
The debut of That Badu on International Women’s Day comes three years after Badu created Apple Tree, a cannabis accessory company. “This collaboration with Erykah felt right and necessary for so many reasons,” said Berner, who is co-founder and CEO of Cookies. “I was raised by my mother, who was a powerful woman, and I was mentored in the cannabis space by a powerful woman, so I think it’s extremely important for more women to be in the industry.”The That Badu strain, a combination of Lemonchello and Jet Fuel Gelato, will initially be sold in eighth-ounce packages and in prerolled marijuana cigarettes.
Not all celebrity brands have been smashing successes, but the San Francisco-based Cookies cannabis brand and apparel from Berner have widely been seen as exceptions.
