'Eric' breakout McKinley Belcher III dives deep into filming the new Netflix series and what drives Detective Michael Ledroit.
Samantha is a writer based in Los Angeles. Television is her one true love, and she tweets about it. A lot.) and Cassie as two parents grappling with the sudden disappearance of their son, Egar . And when Vincent, a professional puppeteer responsible for launching a kids show called, starts drinking excessively, he hallucinates a life-size version of Eric, a puppet his son had drawn. But the show doesn't simply follow the family.
on Broadway, and I think I checked my email during intermission one day and my agents were like, "You need to do this tape ASAP. We need it by tomorrow morning." So I started learning the lines during intermission in my dressing room. I did the tape next morning. And one of the things that struck me initially was, "This is really weird." But then the more I read it, it was beautiful and it was clear that it was something that was truly original.
That's one of the things that excited me about it, is it'd be very easy for them to sideline him as just the core of the investigation and it'd be a sort of procedural in terms of his journey in the show. But I'm really proud that his journey over the course of the six episodes is very much about him marching toward a place of acceptance and embracing all of himself. And only after he does that is he able to be the change that he wants to see in the world.
Both mourning his partner and dealing with all of that stuff that's inside him acts as a kind of fuel and propels him toward doing all the stuff that he does. And because of his job, he's sitting in a place of acute observation for a great deal of the series, but especially those first three episodes where he's watching and trying to put the puzzle pieces together.
