British equestrian Charlotte Dujardin has withdrawn from the 2024 Paris Olympics after a video surfaced of her allegedly whipping a horse four years ago
British equestrian Charlotte Dujardin announced that she has withdrawn from the 2024 Paris Olympics after footage of her allegedly whipping one of her horses surfaced.
She continued, “What happened was completely out of character and does not reflect how I train my horses or coach my pupils, however, there is no excuse. I am deeply ashamed and should have set a better example in that moment.” According to The Guardian, a 19-year-old former student witnessed the alleged animal abuse during a lesson at a private stable and filed a complaint against Dujardin. Attorney Stephan Wensing, who is representing the teen, shared in a statement that he was glad the FEI has taken such a strong stand.
