But Brown first showed an interest in leaving the City Council in May of 2021, when she had attempted to get appointed by the local Democratic Party Central Committee to the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the three-member legislative panel that runs the county. That opened up a rivalry between Brown and Democratic state Rep. Erica Crawley, who edged out Brown by nine votes, 63-54, for the county appointment.
